He was the son of Frances Ann Schofield, a postmistress, born 1856 in Barkestone, Leicestershire. Francis James was born in the 2nd quarter of 1891 in Doncaster, Yorkshire, in March 1901 he was residing at Barkestone, in the home of his Uncle, Frank Schofield, a wheelwright, born 1860 in Leicestershire. In April 1911 Francis was absent from the family home in Barkestone, residing there was his mother, a postmistress, shopkeeper and grocer and his Uncle, Frank Schofield, a wheelwright. Francis died of malaria.
