He was the son of William and Sarah Thornton of Branston by Belvoir, Leics. Before the war he worked at Forehill Gravel Pits at Wythall near Birmingham, Warwks., and whilst there was a member of the Choir at St. Mary’s Church, after his death a memorial service was held in his honour.
