He was the son of Thomas Henry Wheat, a railway wagon painter, born 1852 in Wigston, Leics., and his wife Emma Wheat (nee Baker), a hosiery trade seamstress, born 1855 in Wigston, Leics. Isaac was a shoe trade heel builder and was born in 1877 in Wigston, Leics., his siblings were, George E., a shoe trade riveter, born 1874, Lille, a schoolgirl, born 1879, Bertram, a schoolboy, born 1881, Albert, born 1888 and Maude, born 1890, all his siblings were born in Wigston, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at Moat Street, Wigston Magna, Leics. In March 1901 Isaac was employed as a Midland Railway Company worker and was residing in the family home at 8, Bull’s Head Street, Little Hill, Wigston Magna, Leics., together with his wife Emma Selina Wheat (nee Warr), a hosiery trade machine minder, born 1878 in Rawtenstall, Lancs., also residing with the family was their grandmother Mary Ann Simpkins, born 1823 in Northamptonshire. In April 1911 Isaac was a widower, and was employed as a foundry man and was residing at Moat Street, Wigston Magna, Leics., this being the family home of his parents, also residing in the family home was his brother Albert, an engine cleaner and Isaac’s son John William, born 1911 in Wigston Magna, Leics. On Saturday March 10th 1917 The Leicester Mercury published the following article under the heading. “THE ROLL OF HONOUR” - “LOCAL MEN IN THE CASUALTY LISTS” - The followings local casualties are officially reported. All are Private’s except where otherwise shown:- KILLED. KING’S OWN (ROYAL LANCASHIRE REGIMENT). Wheat, 27968 I. (Wigston).
