He was the son of Amos Wigginton a Midland Railway platelayer, born 1846 in Ashwell, Rutland, and his wife Monica Wigginton (nee Wright), born 1855 in Stapleford, Leics. William Wright Wigginton was born in 1884 in Asfordby, Leics., his siblings were, Frederick, born 1878 in Ashwell, Rutland, George, born 1879 and Ada Ruth, born 1883, the latter two siblings were both born in Melton Mowbray, Leics., and Frances, born 1887 in Asfordby, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at Main Street, Asfordby, Leics. In March 1901 William was employed as a general house assistant and was residing as a servant at Church Street, Wymeswold, Leics. In April 1911 William was employed as a blast furnace worker and was residing in the family home at Asfordby, Leics., together with his parents. On Friday June 1st 1917 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “LOCAL MEN IN THE CASUALTY LISTS” – The following casualties were officially reported on Friday:- DIED OF WOUNDS. NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. Wigginton, 47238 W. (Melton Mowbray).
