He was the son of James Buck a gardener, born 1850 in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., and his wife Mary Jane, born 1853 in Bagworth, Leics. Lester James J., was born in 1887 in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., his siblings were, Elizabeth, born 1877 and William, born 1878, the latter two siblings were both born in Hugglescote, Leics., Sarah A., born 1880, Eliza Mary L., born 1883 and Ada J., born 1891, the latter three siblings were all born in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., also residing with the family was a nurse child, Maggie D. Brown, born 1891 in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at 1, 23 Court, Wood Street, Ashby de la Zouch, Leics. In March 1901 Lester was employed as a greengrocer’s errand boy and was residing in the family home at 23, 1, Court, Wood Street, Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., together with his father now a farm worker, his mother and siblings, William, Sarah, Andrew Thomas, born 1895 and Edith Maud, born 1900, the latter two siblings were both born in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., also residing with the family was his adopted sister, Maggie D. Brown. In April 1911 Lester was employed as a nursery gardener and was residing in the family home at Upper Church Street, Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., together with his father, now of no occupation, his mother now an office cleaner, and his married sister Eliza Hill, and siblings Andrew and Edith. In the October, November, December quarter of 1911, Lester married Ada Edwards in the Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire registration district.
