He was the son of Thomas Freer Buswell a grocers warehouseman, born 1867 in Sutton Cheney, Leics., and his wife Maria, born 1867 in Hale Magna, Lincs. Ivan William was born in 1894 in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., his siblings were, Lilian May, born 1893 in Appleby Magna, Leics., and Ernest Hessell Buswell, born 1896 in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at 69, Market Street, Ashby de la Zouch, Leics. In April 1911 Ivan was employed as a junior clerk and was residing in the family home at 8, Wilfred Place, Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Lilian and Ernest.
