He was the son of Thomas Farmer, a railway platelayer, born 1866 in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., and his wife Sarah Ann Farmer (nee Evans, married in the 4th quarter of 1890 in the Ashby de la Zouch, Leics. district), born 1868 in Moira, Leics. George was born on the 26th August 1897 in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics, his siblings were, Ada, born 1892, James, born 1894, Thomas, born 1896 and Fred, born 1901, all his siblings were born in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at 11, The Green, Ashby de la Zouch, Leics. In April 1911 George was employed as a grocery store errand boy and was residing in the family home at 11, The Green, Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., together with his father a market gardener, his mother and siblings, Ada, a shop waitress, James, a labourer, Thomas a bricklayer’s labourer, William a schoolboy, born 1902, Alice, a schoolgirl, born 1905 and Wilfred, born 1909, the latter three siblings were all born in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics. George died from disease.
