He was the son of William Evans, a gardener and groom, born 1859 in Westbury, Shropshire and his wife Eliza Jane Evans (nee Field), born 1861 in Handley, Dorset. Richard Blanchard, a grocer’s assistant was born in 1895 in Ashby Parva, Leics., his siblings were, Wilfred Henry, a gardener’s assistant, born 1894, John, a groom, born 1897 and Basil Arthur, a schoolboy, born 1904, all his siblings were born in Ashby Parva, Leics., in April 1911 the family home was at Ashby Parva, Leics. On Monday January 15th 1917 The Leicester Mercury published the following article under the heading. “LOCAL MEN IN THE CASUALTY LISTS” The following local casualties are reported under various dates. All are Private’s except where otherwise shown. The town shown against each soldiers name is the home of his next-of-kin. DIED OF WOUNDS. SHERWOOD FORESTERS. Evans, 4926 Lance Corporal R. B. (Lutterworth).
