"Joseph Henry Lynes was born in 1874, in Desford, Leicestershire.

Joseph Henry’s parents lived in Bardon Hill, Leicestershire.
His father, George Lynes was a slates layer in Bardon Hill, and was born in Desford 1853. His mother Elizabeth Lynes was born in Desford 1855.

He had seven siblings: Elizabeth 1875, William 1881, Alice.A born 1882, Geraldine 1883, Florence 1885, Ernest 1886, and Walter.F 1890 Before the war Joseph lived in Bardon Hill.
His wife Flora and their three children resided at Stanton-under-Bardon, Leicestershire at the time of his death.

Military Service:

Joseph Henry Lynes had been in the Army for twenty years and at the outbreak of war was stationed at Malta.

Joseph was reported missing since 25th September 1915.

He was reported missing and presumed killed in action on the 25th September 1915 at the age of 41.

He is commemorated at the Loos Memorial, France, on panel 57 to 59.

Joseph Henry is also remembered at Bardon Chapel Memorial, Bardon, Leicestershire."
