He was the son of Emma Bond a hosiery mender, born 1860 in Leicester. Arthur Eden Bond, was born in 1884 in Leicester, in April 1891 he was residing as a boarder together with his mother at Cottages, South End, Barrow upon Soar, Leics. In March 1901 Arthur was employed as a cabinet makers apprentice and was residing in the family home at 16, Luke Street, Leicester together with his mother. In April 1911 Arthur was employed as a railway worker and was residing in the family home at 8, Duchess Street, Belgrave, Leicester together with his mother. His mother later resided at 14, Rawson Street, New Basford, Notts. On Friday February 9th 1917 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “BARROW-ON-SOAR” – LOCAL CASUALTY. – Mrs Bond of Lovett’s Yard, Barrow has received information from an officer at the front that her only son, Pte. Arthur Bond, of the Leicesters, has been killed in action, the result of shell fire. Pte. Bond was 28 years of age, and before enlisting two years back was employed at Messrs. J. Ellis and Son’s concrete works. The War Diary entry for the 25th January 1917 records. LA BOURSE. At 5.15am “A” Company worked on STANSFIELD ROAD. 1 man was killed and 1 wounded. At 8.00am “B” Company worked on QUARRY ALLEY, GORDON ALLEY and BARTS ALLEY. A party of “C” Company worked on LEWIS KEEP. At 1.00pm “D” Company worked on MAISON ROUGE ALLEY as before. 1 man sick to the Field Ambulance.
