Waring (Warin recorded at birth) a furnace worker, born in 1869 in Yelvertoft, Northants., and his wife Catherine Waring (nee Hull), born 1870 in London. Walter Bernard was a schoolboy and was born in 1898 in Loughborough, Leics., in April 1911 the family home was at 9, Park Avenue, Asfordby Road, Melton Mowbray, Leics. The 3rd April 1917 edition of the Leicester Mercury published the following under, LOCAL MEN IN THE CASUALTY LISTS. The following local casualties are officially reported:- DIED OF WOUNDS: LEICESTERSHIRE REGIMENT. Waring, 16488 B. (Barrow on Soar). On Friday April 13th 1917 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “LOCAL MEN IN THE CASUALTY LISTS” Tuesday’s list included:- DIED OF WOUNDS. LEICESTERSHIRE REGIMENT. Waring, 16488 B. (Barrow on Soar). The above were held over from last week. The War Diary for today records. Bde marched 6.30am, BAGHDAD entered. Battn bivouacked near station. Bde found outpost line. Battn in reserve. At 6.00pm orders received to call in present picquet line and take up line as follows:- 2nd LEICESTERSHIRES 812 central (on railway line) north to river. A, C and D Coy’s took up this line with B Coy in reserve. Cold at night and some rain.
