He was the son of Tom Rue a farm labourer, born 1848 in Quorn, Leics., and his wife Elizabeth Rue (nee Joyce), born 1848 in Barrow on Soar, Leics. George was a schoolboy and was born in 1884 in Barrow on Soar, Leics., his siblings were, Mary Ann, a factory worker, born 1874, Rose, a factory worker, born 1876, Sarah Elizabeth, a factory worker, born 1878, Emma, a schoolgirl, born 1880 and Arthur William, a schoolboy, born 1886, all his siblings were born in Barrow on Soar, Leics., also residing with the family was his maternal aunt Mary Ann Joyce, born 1843 in Barrow on Soar, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at North Street, Barrow on Soar, Leics. In March 1901 George was employed as a lime works labourer and was residing as a visitor at North Street, Barrow on Soar, Leics. In April 1911 George was employed as an elastic trade worker and was residing as a visitor at North Street, Barrow on Soar, Leics. George was baptised on the 2nd October 1887 at Barrow upon Soar, Leics. On Friday June 15th 1917 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “BARROW ON SOAR” – LOCAL SOLDIER KILLED.- Mr Tom Rue, of Town End, Barrow on Soar, has been officially informed that his eldest son, Pte. George Rue, of the South Stafford’s was killed in action on May 23. Previous to joining up Pte. Rue was employed by Messrs. H. D. Driver and Sons, hosiery manufacturers.
