Source: Michael Doyle Their Name Liveth For Evermore: The Great War Roll of Honour for Leicestershire and Rutland.
He was the son of George and Millicent Pollard. After enlistment and training he embarked for France in March 1917 and was engaged with the Guards at the third Battle of Ypres, and was in the attack when they drove their way through Bourlon Wood in spite of a desperate resistance from a German line, including several battalions of Prussian Guards, which resulted in gaining a valuable stretch of the Hindenburg Line. He was killed instantly by shrapnel near the village of Ribecourt and was buried in Hill Cemetery, north west of Flesquieres, near Cambrai.
