He was the son of Thomas Moore, a shoe trade riveter, born 1866 in Barwell, Leics., and his wife, Mary Ann Moore (nee Bowler, married Q 4 1886 in the Hinckley, Leics. district), born 1867 in Earl Shilton, Leics. Lewis was born on the 19th December 1896 in Earl Shilton, Leics., his siblings were, Alfred, born 1888, Priscilla, born 1889, William, born 1890, Leonard, born 1892, Arthur, born 1898 and Joseph, born 1900, all his siblings were born in Earl Shilton, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Church Street, Noch Verges, Earl Shilton, Leics. In April 1911 Lewis was employed as aboot and shoe trade finisher and was residing at 11, Stanley Street, Barwell, Leics., this being the family home of his widowed aunt, Hepzibah Spencer, born 1852 in Barwell, Leics., and her children, Thomas, a boot and shoe trade clicker, born 1885 and Harriett, born 1886, the latter two children were both born in Leicester. Lewis enlisted on the 15th November 1915 and embarked to join the British Expeditionary Force in France on the 10th July 1916, joining his unit, the Anson Battalion on the 21st August 1916, and serving with this unit until he suffered a gun shot wound to the thorax (chest) on the 28th April 1917, he was admitted to the 6th British Red Cross Hospital (Known as the Liverpool Merchants Mobile Hospital) in Etaples and died from his wounds at 4.30am on the 8th May 1917.
