He was the only son of Elizabeth Ann Bamford (nee Dimmock), born 1869 in Thurlaston, Leicestershire, and the late John Henry Bamford. James Harry was born in 1898 in Syston, Leicestershire. In March 1901 James was residing with his widowed mother at The Post Office, Ashby Parva, Leicestershire, this being the home of James and Ellen Dimmock, his maternal grandparents. In April 1911 James was a Schoolboy and was residing with his widowed mother in Ashby Parva, Leicestershire.
