He was the son of Edwin Bailey Clemerson a lace maker, born 1869 in Sheffield, Yorks., and his wife Alice, born 1874 in Mapperley, Derbys. Arthur was born in 1893 in Shipley, Derbys., his siblings were, Edwin Bailey Clemerson, born 1898 and Mabel, born 1900, both his siblings were born in Radford, Notts., in March 1901 the family home was at 5, Wilton Road, Nottingham. In April 1911 Arthur was employed as a shop boy and was residing in the family home at 4, Wilton Road, Nottingham, together with his parents and siblings, Edwin and Mabel.
