He was the son of Thomas Henry Hopkins, a baker, born 1846 in Glen Parva, Leics., and his wife Ann Hopkins (nee Whitmore, married in the 2nd quarter of 1867 in the Leicester district), born 1846 in Rothwell, Northants. Albert John, a schoolboy was born in the first quarter of 1887 in Blaby, Leics., his siblings were, William Ernest, a baker, born 1872 in Leicester, Elisha Horace, a schoolboy, born 1880 and Florence Hannah, a schoolgirl, born 1881, the latter two siblings were both born in Blaby, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at Wigston Street, Blaby, Leics. In March 1901 Albert was employed as a milk dairy worker and was residing in the family home at Wigston Road, Blaby, Leics., together with his father, a bread maker, his mother and siblings Elisha, a bricklayer’s apprentice and Florence, a stocking trade machinist. In April 1911 Albert was employed as a bread baker and was residing in the family home at Wigston Road, Blaby, Leics., together with his father, a bread baker and his mother. He was discharged as Class 2 on the 27th January 1919. Albert died on the 28th September 1921 aged 34 in the Blaby, Leics. district. His funeral took place on the 1st October 1921. He was awarded the British and Victory Medals.
