He was the son of Edwin Bradbury a sanitary pipe works foreman, born 1865 in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., and his wife Sarah Elizabeth, born 1864 in Smyrna, Turkey. Cyril Roper was born in 1891 in Blackfordby, Leics., his siblings were, Henry R., born 1890 in Swadlincote, Derbys., Ethel G., born 1894, Jessie L., born 1896 and Alfred E., born 1898, the latter three siblings were all born in Blackfordby, Leics., Frank N., born 1901 in Woodville, Derbys., in March 1901 the family home was at Moira Road, Woodville, Derbys. In April 1911 Cyril was employed as an assistant teacher and was residing as a boarder at 3, Vicars Close, Wells, Somerset. Cyril had served in Malta, Egypt, Gallipoli and France, he first entered the theatre of war in Egypt on the 30th August 1915.
