He was the son of William and Frances Ann Pacey of Easthorpe, Leics. His younger brother Frank also died. His enlistment documents record that he gave his father, William Pacey of Bottesford, Nottinghamshire, England as his next of kin. He gave his trade or calling as Waiter, and he stated that he was unmarried. He had previously served with the 95th Saskatchewan Rifles for two years. Information taken from his medical examination shows that he was 5 foot 7 inches in height and had a chest measurement of 35 to 36 ½ inches. His complexion was described as dark with brown eyes and dark brown hair. He gave his religion as Church of England.
