He was the son of William Henry Tite, an agricultural labourer, born 1863 in Roade, Northants., and his wife Elizabeth Tite (nee Cross, married in the 1st quarter of 1886 in the Lutterworth, Leics. district), born 1853 in Leire, Leics. William Thomas was born in the 1st quarter of 1887 in Frolesworth, Leics., he had one sibling, a sister, Martha Elizabeth, born 1889 in Frolesworth, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at Sharnford, Leics. In March 1901 William was employed in farm work and was residing in the family home at Astley Hall Cottages, Astley, Nuneaton, Warwks., together with his father, a farm general labourer, his mother and sister Martha. In April 1911 William was absent from the family home in Bitteswell, Leics., residing there was his father, a farm labourer, his mother and sister Martha, a hosiery trade mender. In the 2nd quarter of 1914, William married Ethel E. Cockerill in the Lutterworth, Leics. district.
