He was the son of Thomas Arnold a General Agricultural Labourer, born Curborough, Staffordshire and his wife Jane Harriet, born 1860 in Blaby, Leicestershire. John Rudkin was a Hosiery Factory Hand and was born in 1885 in Thurlaston, Leicestershire, his siblings were Ada Jane, born 1879, William Thomas, born 1881 and Gertrude M., born 1883 in Blaby, Leicestershire, Lizzie E., born 1892 in Thurlaston, Leicestershire and George H., born 1896 in Burbage, Leicestershire. In March 1901 the family home was at 69, Lutterworth Road, Burbage, Leicestershire. In April 1911 John was employed as a Hosiery Machine Operator, and was married to Rose, a Linker, born 1888 in Burbage, Leicestershire, the family home was at Sketchley Road, Burbage, Leicestershire. His parents were later shown to be residing at 27, Church Street, Burbage, Leicestershire. The War Diary for today records. ENGLEBELMER. Followed through LE SARS to EAUCOURT L’ABBE. 2.00pm. Hostile counter attack repulsed by Battalion at latter place, after which a defensive flank to Division was formed facing south.
