He was the son of Henry Ward a coal agent and sub postmaster, born 1858 in Leicester and his wife Frances Ward (nee Knight), born 1859 in Burrough on the Hill, Leics. Francis Henry, was born in 1892 in Burrough on the Hill, Leics., his siblings were, Elizabeth Knight Ward, born 1894 and Gladys, born 1898, both his siblings were born in Burrough on the Hill, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Post Office, Main Street, Burrough on the Hill, Leics. In April 1911 Francis was employed as a coal office clerk and was residing in the family home at Burrough on the Hill, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Elizabeth, a schoolgirl and Gladys, a schoolgirl. On Friday July 6th 1917 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “LOCAL AND DISTRICT NEWS” – BURROUGH ON THE HILL. SOLDIERS DEATH.- Much sympathy will be felt for Mr H. Ward, of the Post Office, in the loss he has sustained by the death, from pneumonia at Salonika, of his son Frank, of the Motor Transport Corps.
