He was the son of George Ball an Agricultural Labourer, born 1843 in Newbold Verdon, Leicestershire and his wife Mary, born 1850 in Newbold Verdon, Leicestershire. Charles was born in 1879 In Newbold Verdon, Leicestershire, his siblings were Walter, born 1874, John William, born 1876, Edwin, born 1881 and Arthur, born 1885, all his siblings were born in Newbold Verdon, Leicestershire. In April 1881 the family home was at Dragons Lane, Newbold Verdon, Leicestershire. In April 1901 Charles was employed as an Agricultural Labourer and was residing with his three siblings at Brascote Lane, Newbold Verdon, Leicestershire. In April 1911 Charles was employed as a Labourer and held an Out Door Beer Licence for the Barley Mow Public House, he was married to Mary Jane, born 1881 in Newbold Verdon, Leicestershire and the family home was at The Barley Mow, Cadeby, Leicestershire. Charles enlisted on the 16th July 1917 and embarked to join the British Expeditionary Force on the 12th November 1917. He joined his unit, the Hawke Battalion on the 24th November 1917 and served until being wounded in the neck on the 31st December 1917. He was invalided home on the 7th January 1918, and on recovery he again embarked to join the British Expeditionary Force on the 1st June 1918, rejoining his unit the Hawke Battalion on the 15th June 1918 until he was killed in action on the 25th August 1918.

CADEBY WAR MEMORIAL
Sir Thomas Cope, of Osbaston Hall, has unveiled, and the Rector (the Rev. J. Stewart Borrowdale) has dedicated a war memorial, which has been placed in the church by the villagers of Cadeby and Osbaston, in memory of the men from the two villages who lost their lives in the war. The memorial is of white marble, and has been erected on the north wall of the church at a cost of £15/18/0. It bears the following names:
William Hadland, Leicestershire Regiment; Frederick B. Bartlam, Leicestershire Regiment; Wm. E. Parry, Leicestershire Regiment; Albert Arthur Unwin, Leicestershire Regiment; Wm. J. Pallett, Leicestershire Regiment; Chas. Ball, Hawke Battalion, N.D.; and Geo. Pallett, Lincolnshire Regiment.
