He was the son of William Bowley a basket maker, born 1870 in Castle Donington, Leics., and his wife Mary Ann a seamstress, born 1871 in Castle Donington, Leics. Arthur was born in 1890 in Castle Donington, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at Hemington Hill, Hemington, Leics. In March 1901 Arthur was residing in the family home at Biggin, Castle Donington, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Fred, born 1893 and Eliza, born 1895, both his siblings were born in Hemington, Leics. In April 1911 Arthur was employed as a gardener and was residing in the family home at Hemington, Leics., together with his wife Matilda, born 1890 in Cannock, Staffs.
