ContributeSource: Michael Doyle Their Name Liveth For Evermore: The Great War Roll of Honour for Leicestershire and Rutland. Other sources show the surname spelling as Everett. The War Diary for today records. Quiet day with artillery bombardment between 7.30am and 8.30am and also from 4.30pm to 5.00pm. During the night there were some indications of a partial relief being carried out in the enemy front line trench i.e. (a) at about 9.00pm talking and noise was heard opposite E10. A flare was sent up but no enemy observed. The noise appeared to be fairly continuous and appeared to move along the enemy’s front trench in a northerly direction. (b) The enemy’s rifle fire early this morning was high and not so accurate as formerly. (c) More faces were seen than usual looking through enemy’s loopholes as if surveying our front this morning. Thirteen grenades were fired from the Leslie Gun – the shooting appeared to be good, several bombs appearing to drop in the enemy’s trench. The deepening of the supervision trench round EMPERORS TRENCH was completed.
