He was the son of Samuel Buckingham a bricklayer, born 1841 in Birmingham, Warwks., and his wife Elizabeth, born 1841 in Birmingham, Warwks. Samuel was born in 1878 in Aston Cross, Warwks., his siblings were, Florence, born 1874, George, born 1876 and Elizabeth, born 1881, all his siblings were born in Birmingham, Warwks., in April 1881 the family home was at Discount Place, Kings Norton, Worcs. In April 1891 Samuel was employed as a saddle tree maker and was residing in the family home at 3 Back of 8, Upper Cox Street, Kings Norton, Balsall Heath, Worcs., together with his parents and siblings, George, Elizabeth, Gertrude, born 1882 and Mary Jane, born 1885, the latter two siblings were both born in Birmingham, Warwks. In April 1901 Samuel was serving as an Infantry Corporal, and was stationed as Tournay Barracks, Farnborough, Hants. In April 1911 Samuel was employed as an emergency guard and was residing in the family home at Highfields, Snibston, Leics., together with his wife of one year, Annie Louisa, born 1884 in Burton upon Trent, Staffs.

LOCAL CASUALTIES

News has been received by Mrs Buckingham, of Standard Hill, Coalville, that her husband, Sergeant Samuel Buckingham, of the Lincolnshire Regiment, was killed in action in France on March 22nd. He would have been 40 years of age the next day. Before re-enlisting (he had previously been in the army) he was employed on the Midland Railway at Coalville as a shunter. He went to France on January 30th. He leaves a widow and one child.
