He was the son of Robert Arthur Fenton, a grocer’s assistant, born 1866 in Boston, Lincs., and his wife Florence Fenton (married 1892), born 1870 in Leicester. Alfred William was born in 1893 in Leicester, his siblings were, Walter Wordsell, born 1896 and Rhoda Evelyn, born 1900, both his siblings were born in Leicester, also residing with the family was his paternal uncle, Alfred E. Fenton, a draper’s assistant, born 1874 in Boston, Lincs., in March 1901 the family home was at 83, Wilberforce Road, Leicester. In April 1911 Alfred was employed as a salesman and was residing in the family home at 18, Agar Street, Leicester together with his father, a grocer’s warehouse assistant, his mother and siblings, Walter, a pawnbroker’s assistant, Rhoda, a schoolgirl and Florence Jessie Lilian, a schoolgirl, born 1906 in Leicester.
