The War Diary for today records. 21st Bde with 2 Battn’s 19th Bde would move with right flank on Railway. 28th Bde to co-operate when 21st Bde level. Enemy position on that side of Railway reported most strongly held. Orders for Battn to move echeloned on right of 53rd SIKHS. 56th RIFLES moved to left of 53rd SIKHS with their left flank on the Railway in connection with 21st Bde. 51st SIKHS in reserve. Orders to commence movement received at 4.55pm. Advance continued until dark under very heavy shell fire and some rifle fire. At dark about 600 yards from enemy. Dug in. Dispositions:- 3 platoons of B Coy 100 yards in advance of main line. A Coy on left (in connection with 53rd SIKHS about 500 yards to left) 1 platoon. B, D and C Coy’s. Our right flank exposed but protected by one platoon echeloned Lewis guns and Bombers. Night very quiet. Strong patrols out all night. Weather very hot sun during day, but night cold.
