He was the son of Samuel Crick, an agricultural labourer, born 1830 in Croft, Leicestershire and his wife Eliza Crick (nee Raynor, married on the 14th October 1861 in Croft Parish Church), born 1837 in Thurlaston, Leicestershire. George Crick, a schoolboy, was born in the 1st quarter of 1873 in Croft and was baptised on the 23rd March 1873 in Croft Parish Church, his siblings were, Alfred, a stone quarry worker, born 1861 and baptised on the 5th April 1863 in Croft Parish Church, Frederick, a stone quarry worker, born 1863 and baptised on the 5th April 1863 in Croft Parish Church, Harry, a stone quarry worker, born 1867 and baptised on the 29th September 1867 in Croft Parish Church, Clara, a schoolgirl, born 1871 and baptised on the 23rd March 1873 in Croft Parish Church, Thomas, a schoolboy, born 1st September 1875 and baptised on the 17th October 1875 in Croft Parish Church and Annie, born 1879 and baptised on the 15th June 1879 in Croft Parish Church, all his siblings were born in Croft, in April 1881 the family home was in Croft. In April 1891 George was absent from the family home at The Cottage, Croft, residing there was his father, a farm labourer, his mother and sister, Annie, a schoolgirl, George was employed as a quarry worker and was residing in New Row, Croft this being the family home of his brother Alfred, a stone cutter, his wife Lucy Crick (nee Warren, married on the 10th March 1884 in Cosby Parish Church), born 1866 in Cosby, Leicestershire and their children, Annie Eliza, a schoolgirl, born 1884 and baptised on the 18th May 1884 in Croft Parish Church, Warren William, a schoolboy, born 1886 and baptised on the 25th July 1886 in Croft Parish Church and Nellie Louisa, born 1888 and baptised on the 23rd September 1888 in Croft Parish Church, all the children were born in Croft, also residing in the family home were his siblings, Frederick, a quarry worker, Harry, a quarry worker and Tom, a shoe trade riveter. In March 1901 George was absent from the family home at 73, Granite Cos Cottage, Croft, residing there was his father, living on his own means, his mother and his nephew William Gordon, a schoolboy, born 1891 in Croft, George was employed as a concrete works labourer and was residing at 43, Granite Cos Cottages, Croft, this being the family home of his brother Alfred, a granite sett maker, his wife Lucy and their children, Warren a granite quarry worker, Nellie and Alfred George, born 1891 in Croft and baptised on the 9th August 1891 in Croft Parish Church, also residing in the family home was his sibling Tom, a concrete works labourer. In April 1911 George was employed as a concrete works labourer and was residing in the family home in Huncote, Leicestershire together with his father, an old age pensioner and his mother.
George had formerly served with the 1/7th Battalion and then the 1st Battalion of the Leicestershire Regiment before being transferred to the 1/6th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He was awarded the British War and Victory medals.
The War Diary records: 8 Mar-17 – BIACHE. Relieved 1/8th WORCESTERSHIRE REGIMENT in old section – night of 7/8th.
Raid carried out by “A” Company at 9.00 pm. Bombardment by heavies for 10 minutes before Zero – Barrage from Zero to + 10 then forming a box – party in trenches 15 minutes – 3 Prisoners (one died) and one Machine Gun – estimate over 30 Germans killed. Casualties Other ranks. 1 killed. 2 wounded and missing. 13 wounded (1 remained at duty).
