He was the son of Samuel Orridge (Oridge), a farm wagoner, born 1861 in Wysall, Notts., and his wife Mary Ann Orridge (nee Orton), a stocking embroiderer, born 1859 in Diseworth, Leics. Arthur Orton was born in 1894 in Diseworth, Leics., his siblings were, Mary Elizabeth, a stocking embroiderer, born 1885, Isaac Henry, born 1890, Gertrude Hannah, born 1892, Wallace, born 1897 and Samuel born, 1899, all his siblings were born in Diseworth, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Page Lane, Diseworth, Leics. In April 1911 Arthur was employed as a farm labourer and was residing as a servant at Nailstone Lodge, Nailstone, Leics. His younger brother Samuel also lost his life, being killed accidentally. The War Diary for today records. RIBEMONT. Entrained for SALEUX and marched 15 kilometres to HANGEST.
