He was the son of Ernest Edward Bourne a coal miner, born 1875 in Moira, Leics., and his wife Amy Elizabeth, born 1876 in Moira, Leics. Thomas Timothy Smith Bourne, was born in 1895 in Moira, Leics., he had one sibling, a brother Clarence Paulyn Ernest, born 1900 in Donisthorpe, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Ebenezer Cottages, Oakthorpe Road East Side, Donisthorpe, Leics. In April 1911 Thomas was employed as a junior shorthand clerk and was residing in the family home at Moira Road, Donisthorpe, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Clarence, Amy Elizabeth, born 1903 and Alexandra Dagmar Barbara, born 1905, the latter two siblings were both born in Donisthorpe, Leics.
