He was the son of Abraham Breward a shoe riveter, born 1855 in Earl Shilton, Leics., and his wife Mary a shoe machinist, born 1862 in Earl Shilton, Leics. Joe Taylor was born in 1887 in Earl Shilton, Leics., his siblings were Ellen Selina, born 1879, George Harry, born 1880, Eliza Ann, born 1883, Tom, born 1884, Mary, born 1886, John Oliver, born 1889 and Elsie Elizabeth, born 1891, all his siblings were born in Earl Shilton, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at Baptist Row, Earl Shilton, Leics. In March 1901 Joe was employed as a shoe trade worker and was residing in the family home at 91, Wood Street, Earl Shilton, Leics., together with his father, now a shoe laster, his mother and siblings, Ellen, George, Eliza, Mary, John, Elsie, Caroline, born 1892, Lydia, born 1894, Celia, born 1894, Abraham, born 1898, Andrew, born 1897 and Levina A., born 1901, the latter six siblings were all born in Earl Shilton, Leics. In April 1911 Joe was a shoe riveter and was residing in the family home at Bog Society Land, Earl Shilton, Leics., together with his father, now a shoe riveter, his mother and siblings, Eliza, Tom, John, Elizabeth, Caroline, Lydia, Celia, Andrew, Abraham, Levina and Percy, born 1904 in Earl Shilton, Leics. In the October, November, December quarter of 1915, Joe married Evelyn Merry in the Hinckley, Leicestershire registration district. His elder brother George Harry and his younger brother’s Andrew and Abraham all fell in action.
