During the night No.2 piquet of No.2 Coy occupied posts on north side of RUE DE BOIS and put posts forward into orchard previously vacated by the 4th Battn. This B was all clear of the enemy. Detailed posts established in those between No.’s 2 and 3 piquet’s of No.1 Coy. House B -?- bombarded with -?- but must be occupied -?- it to the enemy. During the past 2 days operations by the 55th Division against GIVENCHY craters have attracted some shelling on our right posts. Lt Col WOOD wounded in head by shell in the RUE DE BOIS and evacuated to hospital. Captain BURNETT assumed command. At 2.00pm. During the afternoon 4.5 Howitzers and 18 pounders bombarded RUE DE L’EPINETTE and EPINETTE EAST post effectively silencing the snipers. At 4.00pm. Enemy retaliated by bombarding No.4 piquet on No.2 Coy (13 platoon CHRISTY) with shells of all calibres including 5.9’s. Bombardment lasted 3 hours and platoon had 3 men killed. Orchard was evacuated and posts established in fields on flanks and in front. Our artillery retaliated with 10 mm in -?- on known enemy positions and silenced hostile artillery. Some rain during the night. 2nd Lt DUNLOP evacuated to hospital with septic poisoning knee, from mosquito bite.
