He was the son of George Brumbley a groom and gardener, born 1860 in Heckington, Lincs., and his wife Annie, born 1865 in Denton, Lincs. George Edward was born in 1892 in Eastwell, Leics., his siblings were, Constance, born 1895, Winifred, born 1896, Frances, born 1897, Annie, born 1898 and Florence, born 1900, all his siblings were born in Eastwell, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at, At the Tip, Eastwell, Leics., however George was residing with his maternal grandparents, Thomas Winter an agricultural labourer, born 1835 in Denton, Lincs and his wife Mary, born 1846 in Harston, Leics., in the family home at Rose Cottage, Denton, Lincs. The medal index card shows that George first entered the theatre of war in the Balkans on the 14th September 1915, he was awarded the British and Victory medals, roll F/105 B9, page 1081, and the 1915 Star, roll F/6B, page 491, he was shown to have been discharged and awarded the Silver War Badge, SWB List F/a/1644, the latter award confirming that his discharge was related to war injuries. In the July, August, September quarter of 1926, George’s death was show to have been recorded in the Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire registration district.
