He was the son of John Thomas Scrimshaw, a grocer, born 1853 in Stathern, Leics., and his wife Hannah Scrimshaw (nee Collyer, married 1882), born 1859 in Warmington, Northants. Albert William was born in 1885 in Melton Mowbray, Leics., he had one sibling, a sister, Ethel Mary, born 1888 in Melton Mowbray, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at 30, Pall Mall, Melton Mowbray, Leics. In March 1901 Albert was residing in the family home at Penn Yard, Whissendine, Rutland, together with his father, now a domestic gardener, his mother and siblings, Ethel and Maude Annie, born 1892 in Melton Mowbray, Leics. Albert’s mother passed away in the first quarter of 1902, aged 42, in the Oakham, Rutland registration district. In the fourth quarter of 1913, Albert married Annie E. Wass in the Belper, Derbyshire marriage registration district. They resided at Windley, Derbys. On Friday November 9th 1917 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “LOCAL AND DISTRICT NEWS.” – EASTWELL. – LOCAL SOLDIER’S DEATH. – The death has taken place in a casualty clearing station abroad of Lance Corpl., Albert Scrimshaw, Bucks. Regiment, only son of Mr. J. T. Scrimshaw, of Eastwell. He was wounded in the head and taken into hospital unconscious, and died almost immediately. Lance Corpl. Scrimshaw was 32 years of age.
