ContributeSource: Leicestershire War Memorials Project. Ronald was the son of Frederick Charles Blackman and Florence Mercy Farrant.
He was born on the 13th June 1922 at Uckfield to Frederick Charles Blackman and Florence Mercy Farrant.
He joined the army on the 15th January 1942, entered France with the Royal Ulster Rifles at the D Day landings on the 3th June 1944 and was reported missing in Holland on the 29th November 1944.
He was eventually found to have been captured and was a prisoner of war from 30th November 1944 to 27th April 1945 when he returned to the UK.
He was sent back to Germany to help with the clear up on the 3rd January 1946 and eventually discharged from the army on the 11th June 1946 but held as a reserve until 10th February 1954.
He married Barbara Blackman in 1951 and they subsequently had two daughters. They lived at Petworth in Sussex and he worked at Petworth House which is now run by the National Trust.
