He was the son of William Renshaw Rawding, a farm wagoner, born 1862 in Bracebridge, Lincs., and his wife Mary Annie Rawding (nee Jackson, married in the 4th quarter of 1889 in the Oakham, Rutland district), born 1867 in Langtoft, Lincs. Bertie Renshaw, a schoolboy, was born in the 2nd quarter of 1898 in Burley, Rutland, his siblings were, Thomas William, a domestic gardener, born in the 1st quarter of 1895 in Great Casterton, Rutland, Harry, a farm worker, born 1897 in Burley, Rutland, Edith, a schoolgirl, born 1905 in Ashwell, Rutland and Elsie, born 1909 in Edmondthrope, Leics., in April 1911 the family home was at Edomondthorpe Lodge, Edmondthorpe, Leics. His elder brother Thomas died by drowning in a swimming accident.
