He was the son of Mrs Z. Ofield. He was married with one child. He was employed as a signalman on the Midland Railway before the outbreak of war, being a reservist he joined on the day war was declared and embarked for France on the 26th September 1914, he took part in the Battle of the Marne and was killed by a shell near Bethune, France.
