He was the son of Alfred and Fanny Tibbert. Before enlistment into the 5th Battalion of the Leicestershire Regiment he had been employed as a horseman on a farm. He was later transferred to the 12th Battalion of the West Yorkshire Regiment, and finally to the 6th Battalion of the Dorsetshire Regiment, in which he was serving at the time of his death. He embarked on foreign service on the 26th of February 1915 and took part in many engagements including the Battle’s of Loos during October 1915, Ypres, Arras, Albert, Hill 60 and Messines Ridge. He was killed north-west of Albert, France when he was hit by a bullet from a German aeroplane, and though he was carried down to the aid post with all possible speed, he died just as the bearers got there.
