He was the son of Abraham (Adolph) Levy, a shipping merchant’s clerk, born 23rd September 1853 in Nottingham and his wife Florence Annie Levy, born 25th December 1860 in Market Deeping, Lincolnshire. Arthur Herbert was born in the 2nd quarter of 1887 in Nottingham, his siblings were, Mabel Annie, a schoolgirl, born 26th September 1884 and Florence Jennie, born 3rd December 1885, the latter two siblings were both born in Nottingham, in April 1891 the family home was at Millicent Road, West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire. In March 1901 Arthur was residing in the family home at 76, Musters Road, West Bridgford, together with his father, a lace manufacturer, his mother and siblings, Mabel and Florence. In April 1911 Arthur was assisting in the family business and was residing in the family home at 76, Musters Road, West Bridgford, together with his father, a lace manufacturer, his mother and siblings, Florence and Mabel, an art student. Arthur married Mary Grace in the parish church, Enderby, Leicestershire on the 19th February 1914, Mary was born in 1888 in Enderby, she was the daughter of Henry Jinks Grace, born 1864 in Leicester, a granite quarry proprietor and his wife Fanny Grace, born 1865 in Sapcote, Leicestershire of Pen Craig, Enderby. Arthur and Mary had a daughter, Mary Grace, born 8th March 1915 in West Bridgford. In 1939 Arthur’s father, a retired lace manufacturer, his mother and siblings, Mabel and Florence were all living in the family home at 76, Musters Road, West Bridgford.
Arthur was awarded the British War and Victory medals.
