He was the son of John Vesty, a granite quarry sett maker, born 1866 in Enderby, Leicestershire and his wife Annie Vesty (nee Woodhouse, married on the 21st May 1888 in St. John the Baptist Church, Enderby), born 1871 in Rotherham, Yorkshire. Charles was born on the 14th October 1897 in Enderby and was baptised on the 14th November 1897 in the parish church, Enderby, his siblings were, Ernest, born 1889, Harry, born 1891, Cecil, born 13th July 1893 and baptised on the 6th August 1893 in the parish church, Enderby and Ida, born 1895, all his siblings were born in Enderby, in March 1901 the family home was in Conery Lane, Enderby. Charles’s father died in March 1907 aged 41, he was interred on the 30th March in St. John the Baptist Churchyard, Enderby. In April 1911 Charles was employed as a shoe trade worker and was residing in the family home in Conery Lane, Enderby, together with his widowed mother and siblings, Ernest a railway labourer, Harry, a farm labourer, Cecil, a blacksmiths striker, Ida, a hosiery trade worker and Agnes, a schoolgirl, born 1902 in Enderby. In the 2nd quarter of 1916 in the Blaby, Leicestershire district, Charles married Rose Annie Allen, Rose was born on the 25th August 1898 in Leicester, they had a daughter, Olive G., born on the 12th August 1916 in the Blaby, Leicestershire district. In the 4th quarter of 1920, Charles’ widow married Edward K. Morriss in the Leicester district, they resided at 134, Sheridan Street, Aylestone Park, Leicester. Charles’s daughter Olive married Stanley E. Pindar in the 2nd quarter of 1939 in the Leicester district, Stanley was born on the 20th May 1915. In 1939, Rose was residing in the family home at 22, Winster Drive, Barrow upon Soar, Leicestershire with her husband Edward, a general labourer, born 20th September 1892.

Charles was awarded the British War and Victory medals.
The War Diary records: 26-29 Apr-17 - Disposition the same except for a line of outposts held on road. Map 51.B.SW., T.5.d., T.11.b and d. Relieved at night by 1st LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT.
