He was the son of Joseph Edward Young a stone quarry worker, born 1862 in Enderby, Leicestershire and his wife Mary Young (nee Seal, married on the 13th April 1885 in St. James’ Church, Brassington, Derbyshire), born 1861 in Thurcaston, Leicestershire. Albert Edward was born in the 3rd quarter of 1888 in Enderby, his siblings were Sarah Elizabeth, a schoolgirl, born 10th December 1885, George William, a schoolboy, born the 2nd quarter of 1887 and Annie Jane, born 1891, all his siblings were born in Enderby, in April 1891 the family home was at Chapel Lane, Enderby. In March 1901 Albert, was residing in the family home at Langton’s Row, Chapel Street, Enderby, together with his father, a granite quarry worker, his mother and siblings, Sarah, a Griswold stocking frame knitter, George, a quarry worker, Annie, Job, born 1st June 1899 and Amy, born 15th January 1901, the latter two siblings were both born in Enderby. Albert’s father died on the 20th May 1901 in Enderby, aged 39. In April 1911 Albert was employed as a farm labourer and was residing in the family home at Langton’s Row, Chapel Street, Enderby, together with his widowed mother and siblings, George, a stone quarry worker, Annie, a hosiery trade worker, Job and Amy.
Albert was awarded the British War and Victory medals. His elder brother George William died in 1919.
