He was the son of Alfred Benskin a Commercial Traveller, born 1847 in Oundle, Northants., and his wife Matilda Martha, born 1847 in Lutterworth, Leics. George Frie was born in 1888 in Leicester, his siblings were Richard H., born 1873, Frank S., born 1879, William Ewart, born 1881 and Nellie G., born 1886, all his siblings were born in Leicester, in March 1901 the family home was at 18, Evington Road, Draper Street, Leicester, in the Ecclesiastical Parish of Evington, St. Denys. In April 1911 George was employed as a Tobacconist’s Assistant and was residing in the family home at 5, Upper Fox Street, Leicester, together with his parents and siblings, Maggie and William, now a Professional Cricketer.
