He was the son of the Reverend Francis Samuel Edmonds MA., Curate of St. Mark’s, Peterborough, born 1849 in Stamford, Lincs., and his wife Marguerite Lukes Edmonds, born 1851 in St. Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands. Samuel Frank was born in 1879 in Northampton, he had one sibling, a sister Marguerite Ethel, born 1877 in St. Mary’s, Newington, Surrey, in April 1881 the family home was at Church House, Peterborough St. John the Baptist, Northampton. In April 1891 Samuel was residing in the family home at Harringworth Road, Harringworth, Rutland, together with his father, now the Vicar of Harringworth, his mother and sister Marguerite, also residing with the family was his cousin, Ada Carrie, a governess, born 1870 in Leyton. In March 1901 Samuel was a Cambridge University undergraduate and was residing as a boarder at Austwick, Yorkshire. In April 1911 Samuel was an assistant master and was residing as a boarder at the Royal Naval College Hospital, Dartmouth, Devonshire. Samuel was educated at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, and for ten years was a Science Instructor at Dartmouth Naval College. On Friday December 24th 1914 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “ DISTRICT WAR ITEMS.” – FOXTON VICAR’S SON KILLED. – Mr Samuel Frank Edmands (sic), late of Foxton Vicarage, Market Harborough and of Sawmills, Londiana, British East Africa, formerly a master of Harrow School, who was killed in action whilst serving with the East African Mounted Rifles, in British East Africa, on September 25th, aged 35, only son of the Rev. F. S. Edmands, (sic) Foxton Vicarage, left property of the gross value of £1,665, with net personality of £1,577. Probate of his will has been granted to his father.
