He was the son of Stephen and Helen Dexter of Glaston, Rutland. He originally enlisted on March 20th 1907, and was farming when called up as a reservist on the declaration of war, August 4th 1914. He went to France less than a fortnight later, and took part in many engagements in both France and Belgium up to the time of his death, during which period he was never in hospital either through wounds or sickness. He was killed by a shell, it is believed in the vicinity of Lens.
