Channer, Vicar of Desborough, Northants., born 1849 in Camden Town, London and his wife Catherine a retired Governess, born 1845 in Dartmouth, Devon. Edward Winter Channer was born in 1887 in Shepherd’s Bush, Middx., his siblings were, Alfred O., born 1873 in Parkham, Devon, Catherine C., born 1874 in Sherford, Devon, Frederick F. R., born 1875 in Leytonstone, Essex, Frances N., born 1885 in Shepherd’s Bush, Middx., and Margaret C., born 1890 in Desborough, Northants., in April 1891 the family home was at The Vicarage, High Street, Desborough, Northants. In March 1901 Edward was a scholar and was residing at the St. John’s Foundation School, Epsom Road, Leatherhead, Surrey. In April 1911 Edward was employed as an assistant master at the Grammar School, Wimborne, Dorset. The War Diary for today records that the Battalion were in the front line. At 9.30pm Operational Order number 212 from Brigade received as to relief on the 10th/11th July by the 2nd Sherwood Foresters usual trench routine. Heavy trench mortaring of right and left Company’s at 9.00pm. Casualties, other ranks D Company 1 killed. Other sources give Christian names as Edward W.
