He was the son of Robert Heriot, a general merchant and dealer, born 1834 in Dalston, Middlesex and his wife Mary Ann Heriot (nee Tyhurst, married in the 3rd quarter of 1859 in the Islington, Middlesex district), born 1838 in Colchester, Essex. George Edward was born on the 22nd July 1877 in Sutton, Surrey, and was baptised on the 30th August 1877 in Sutton, he had one sibling, a brother Everard Alexander, a schoolboy, born 1872 in Highgate, Middlesex, also residing with the family was George’s widowed maternal grandmother, Jane E. Tyhurst, born 1814 in Preston, Lancashire, in April 1881 the family home was at 5, Holland Road, Hove, Sussex. In April 1891 George was residing in the family home at Hyde Park Gardens, Paddington, Middlesex together with his father, a merchant banker, his mother and siblings, Walter James, born 1862, Charles Hambro, born 1864 and Caroline Isabel R., born 1869 the latter three siblings were all born in Highgate, Florence M., born 1866 in Blackheath, Kent and Everard. In March 1901 George was absent from the family home at Great Doods, Reigate Road, Reigate, Surrey, residing there was his father, a merchant banker and his mother. George married Celia Maud Donisthorpe in St. Peter’s, Eaton Square, Pimlico, Middlesex on the 9th June 1904. In April 1911 George was living on private means and was residing at Sanham House, Kirby Bellars, Leicestershire. His father latterly resided at 108, St. George’s Square, London.
On Friday December 24th 1915 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “DISTRICT WAR ITEMS.” – DEATH OF LIEUT. HERIOT. We much regret to announce the death of 2nd Lieut, G. E. Heriot, of Sanham House, who has been serving with the forces in the Mediterranean, and which occurred in Egypt from pneumonia. The deceased gentleman was a well known follower of the local packs. And in the same edition under the heading “GREAT DALBY” – MEMORIAL SERVICE. A memorial service was held in St. Swithin’s Church, Great Dalby, last Monday evening for 2nd Lieutenant G. E. Heriot, who has died of pneumonia whilst serving with the forces in the Mediterranean. The deceased gentleman has resided at Sanham House for a number of years, and was well known in the district as a member of the Quorn Hunt.
