He was the son of Harry Burdett a granite quarry man, born 1869 in Markfield, Leics., and his wife Elizabeth, born 1868 in Scopwick, Lincs. George Harry was born in 1892 in Markfield, Leics., he had one sibling, a brother Timothy Richard, born 1894 in Groby, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at Ratby Road, Groby, Leics. In April 1911 George was employed as a granite quarry man and was residing in the family home at Groby, Leics., together with his parents and brother Timothy. In the April, May, June quarter of 1916, George married Lavinia Jordan in the Barrow upon Soar, Leicestershire, marriage registration district. His bother Timothy Richard also fell.
