The War Diary for today records that the Commanding Officer, medical Officer and S.O visited the forward Company’s. At 3.55pm orders received from the Commanding Officer for B Company to move up to the Village Line. B Company left at 5.55pm in a heavy thunderstorm. Fresh working party orders received entailing 4 officers and 200 other ranks. Casualties, other ranks B Company 1 wounded and D Company 1 killed.

LOCAL CASUALTIES
Mr John Smith, 69, Ratby Road, Groby has received official information that his fourth son, Private George Harry Smith, Leicester Regiment was killed in France on September 6th, whilst bringing in the wounded. Private Smith was formerly a member of the Leicesters Military Band, and was well-known in local musical circles. He enlisted in March, 1916, and was drafted to France last June. Previous to enlistment he was clerk to Mr B. Samuel, late of Union Street, Leicester. Pte. Smith was 22 years of age.
