He was the son of Kezia Ward (formerly Storer), and the late Thomas Storer. The War Diary entry for events from the 2nd to the 3rd October 1917 records. TRENCHES IN FRONT OF POLYGON WOOD, J.16.a.7.9. to J.10.c.7.6. At 5.30am A protective barrage was put down by our artillery which prevented any enemy attack. Our patrols active but no movement seen. Throughout the day our men had good shooting at enemy who attempted to run back from shell holes. Enemy sniping appreciably less. S.O.S. reported at night at 7.15pm but no action on our front. At 11.00pm the Battalion was relieved by the 9th KING’S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY and moved back to camp at SCOTTISH WOOD.

LOCAL CASUALTIES
Mrs K. Ward, of 3, Leicester Road, Groby, has received official information that her youngest son, Private Sidney Storer, of the Leicesters, was wounded and died on the 3rd inst. He enlisted in February, 1916 and was drafted to France in August of that year. He was 27 years of age, and previous to joining up worked at the quarries.
